"An unknown error occured (11333)"

Can someone please help me? I'm getting an error 11333:

"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. An unknown error occured (11333)"

I'm pretty sure this has to do with the latest version 7.4.2 as if I use 7.3 on another user account on the same computer, I can connect.

I did get this same error with 7.4, but I could just click Okay and it would connect. I had naïvely thought that the newest update would fix the problem, not make it much, much worse.

I have deleted the following files:
com.apple.iTunes.plist
com.apple.iTunes.000a958f444a.plist
com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist

and re-installed iTunes.

Any ideas would be gratefully received!

Thanks,

Paul

It looks like many others are having connection problems to the iTunes store (not everyone is getting the same error number, 11333, as I am). Here is the latest response from Apple.

"Dear Paul,

I do appreciate that you tried the workaround we suggested and I'm sorry to hear that it did not resolve the error you reported.

We are aware of this error and apologize for any inconvenience it has caused for you. I want to assure you that Apple is currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.

Thank you for your patience. Apple wants your iTunes experience to be as enjoyable as possible.

Sincerely,

I had a 'think' at the Genius Bar (Apple store), and they agreed this is a bug they will be enocountering.
I'm not going to review all the diagnositics (keychain first aid, time and date, turing off/on itunes by 'library' instead of tunes store, accessing acc't from web, assesing itunes library as normal-though I did find a "damaged library" in utilities/systems/itunes..which I put in trash and still have library (itunes crashed w. hard drive 2 years ago! THe only thing the store tech tried was to turn off firewall settings. All of this made NO difference, and while I buy about 2 tuens a year, this worries me, b/c it is the 2nd time in a year a download has caused problems, which, like many replies here, seemed to "go away after a while". I think of that more as things could creep back in just as easily in the future, esp. as the Intel mode becomes S.O.P
One thing I wanted to ask folks:
1. Isn't there a field somewhere in preferences that would allow me to check the e mail/web address that iTunes uses to connect? Perhaps that was altered by upgrade?
2. Would someone tell me how to remove 7.4.2, WITHOUT LOSING MY LIBRARY.. (I was running 7.4.1 before, and still am on my other ibook G3 12, w.o 11333 problems! Incidentally, my major machine is a G4 17 Powerbook, circa 2004.
3. Has anyone had this error with the later ilife/jaguar and on? What about users with Intel in em?
Thanks

Hi John,

If you can find a copy, you can use 'downgrade' to 7.3 and access the iTunes store. However, the problem is that 7.4.2 changes the iTunes library. Copy your library to another folder, and then launch 7.3. You could then drag your old iTunes Music Folder over the icon for iTunes 7.3 and all the songs should be imported.

I've tried this, with a small selection of songs, and it worked fine.

I was p.o'd this weekend, when phoning tech support...it seems the specialist says that b/c Apple is soon coming out w. 10.5 OSX, they'll care little about 10.3.9-my system-and he added a good deal of the iTunes "upgrade" (7.4.2) is for connection to iPhone and iTV, units that require 10.4!! Basically he said the only way Apple might make a patch is if enough people complain.
All you folks without a "date/time" successful quick fix, better e mail Apple support asap. I for one am not going to upgrade my operating system just for the store, but I am also really concerned that 7.4.2 is going to ruin my library/iPod!!

I was getting the 11333 error on my Macbook after upgrading iTunes to 7.4.2, and here is what I did to fix it:

1. Open Applications folder.
2. Open Utilities folder.
3. Double click *Keychain Access* icon.
4. From the *Keychain Access* menu, select Preferences.
5. In the Preferences window on the General tab, click *Reset My Keychain*.

Once I had done this, the 11333 errror no longer occurred.

Of course I'm on a Mac. Running Tiger (10.4.10). If you're running 10.3, then you are running an older version of the Mac OS called Panther. When you click the word Keychain Access (at the top left of the screen next to the Apple icon), don't you see a "Preferences" command on the menu? If so, choose that option, which opens the Preferences window. In that window, I see a "Reset My Keychain" button on the General tab.

If you don't see a Preferences command on the Keychain Access menu, then it might be that you are using Panther. I think Panther has a different version of Keychain Access than Tiger, but I'm not sure. What you want to do (if possible) is to find a command somewhere in the Keychain Access program for resetting (rather than repairing) your keychain. I don't have Panther here, so I don't know what the exact commands would be.

This is a common suggestion by tech support, however, it is not a fix, and does not work for most people. If it worked for you, it was a fluke.

Apple is still working on this bug fix and we will probably have to wait until the next update. v7.4.1 fixed my iTunes Store lockout last time.

From now on I'm not updating anything until I read the posts!

Yes, that reset keychain didn't eliminate the 11333 for me...what's worse is the following suggestion from tech support, as follows:

Dear John,

I'm sorry for the trouble you've had with this issue. I downloaded the certificate and attached it to this email. When you receive it please proceed with step 5.

If you're still unable, I would recommend that you try to resolve the issue by choosing to "Reset My Keychain" in Keychain Access.

Sincerely,

Christian

Dear John,

Thank you for your patience while this issue was investigated. At this
time, I have some steps for you to try:

If you see this error message and the Date & Time on your computer is
correct, it is possible that your computer is missing a security
certificate that iTunes requires. You will first need to download and
install the certificate. Here's how:

Mac

1. Go to Entrust's "Download Root Certificates" webpage:
https://www.entrust.net/downloads/root_index.cfm

2. Select "Personal Use" and click Download Certificates.

3. Control-click entrust sslca.cer and choose Download Linked File
from the shortcut menu.

4. Look in the folder you just downloaded this file to and find the
entrust sslca.cer.txt file.

5. Rename this file to entrust sslca.cer.

6. Double-click the file entrust sslca.cer.

7. In the resulting dialog, choose X509Anchors from the Keychain
pop-up menu.

8. Click OK to import the certificate.

9. Enter your admin password when prompted.

Once the certificate has been installed on your computer, quit iTunes
if it is running and then open iTunes again. You should now be able to
access the iTunes Store or activate your iPhone.
