Importing from Sony HVR-M15E Deck

Hi
I am trying to import 3 x 40 minute DVcam tapes into FCP. I am using a Sony HVR-M15E deck (not the camera) to do this via a firewire connection. I have deck control and can fast forward rewind etc but am not getting any picture in the log and capture window and when I try to capture the import window comes up stating it is looking for the timecode.
I am new to DVcam and usually use a blackmagic card to import from Beta SP, DVD, Umatic, Digi Beta and have not ever had a problem before importing. I have imported on Firewire before from DV and never had any issues in over a year.
What settings should I be using in log and capture? The lights on the deck indicate that it is HDV 50, can I use a regular firewire cable to do this or do I need to change the cables?
