Sony - Pass Through ?

I have a Sony DCR-TRV310 Is there anyway to use this camera in "pass-through" mode So I can import my old VHS tapes into iMovie?
If so, whatt are the steps?

If it works the same as the Sony DCR-TVR520, there is no "Pass Through" switch per sé. However, on mine you could

1) remove any tape in the Digital-8
2) connect to a VCR via either S-VHS or RCA-to-Mini-Jack cable
3) connect to computer via 4-to-6 FireWire
4) turn on Digital-8 in the VTR mode
5) open iMovie
6) switch to the "camera" icon mode (older versions) or select "Import from camera" (iMovie '08)

Unfortunately, this workflow did not allow you to "control" the camera as it does when capturing from digital-8/Hi-8 tape and you have to play/rewind/fast forward your VCR tape manually when capturing.

Take a look at the Canopus ADVC300.

It comes with a nice Macintosh program to improve the video.

Nope... I get a "No Tape" Error

Are you sure you are in the "VTR" (i.e., "Playback") mode and not the "Camera" mode? Mine only issues the "No Tape warning" in the camera mode and automatically switches to a "pass through" in the "VTR" mode with a signal coming in on either the S-VHS or Mini-Jack lines. Of course, the 320's/520's were one generation newer.

On my DCR-TRV 120 I have to "Set A/V DV OUT to ON in the menu settings to enable "Analog to Digital pass thru.

Just checked and mine was also set that way as David indicated.
