iPhone constantly draws power when not in use and won't shut down

Since a software restore (set up as a new iPhone) on Monday, my iPhone constantly draws power even when not in use. I actively used it about 30 minutes yesterday and the battery was down to 10% with over 9 hours of usage at the end of my work day.

On top of that, it won't shut off. When I do a hard shut down it restarts on its own within 5 seconds. Has anyone seen either of these issues? I have a genius bar appt. tonight but wanted to see if anyone else has dealt with this.

I don't know about why your phone will not shut off.

But when it comes to your power draining fast - It has been my experience with other cell phones - that if I am in a area where there is no network, or very low signal and my phone was asleep - it would constantly be looking for the network and thus drain the battery much faster. I live right on the ocean, and network and cell carrier signals are always weak or not there. Are you in a edge network blackout area? See the ATT site and look on their map. This also happens in some mountain areas.

I have run into the problem of my phone constantly "running" when it is asleep (NOT powered down, but not in use). This usually happens when I'm at home (I have wifi access setup at home). Usually when I access my phone to check the time, or check the weather, I will put it to sleep...but as anyone with an ATT phone knows, if it is close to some speakers you will get the garbled chatter/interferrence sound...and the last time this happened to me the phone would not stop! It was literally going for 5 minutes, before I decided to power down the phone.

What in the world is the phone doing? Normally if I access a website (while sitting next to my computer speakers) I will hear the chatter going for about 5 seconds before it stops. That is some indication it is attempting to access the network. But when it starts doing that and just does not stop? Does the phone just get "stuck" accessing the network? I know this behavior definitely drains the battery. One instance, I left the phone on my desk for 10 minutes (after just being unplugged from charging over night, full battery) and when I came back I had less than 1/4 of the battery left!!
This only seems to happen at home when I'm in range of the wifi. Anyone else had any of these symptoms show up??

I developed a similar problem spontaneously on October 21st. Having previously had good battery life in the month since I purchased the phone it started running flat within 8 hours in "standby mode". The usage display indicates the phone was active when it was on standby. Having looked through a few threads I tried a reset (sleep/wake & home button together). I was then unable to shut the phone down (rebooting as per the first post in this thread) until I paced it on it's cradle and shut it down while on AC power. It appears to be functioning normally again. Time will tell if battery life is restored.

I had this exact problem and my phone was replaced at the Apple Store.

Did you buy your phone new or refurbished?

Has your phone ever been replaced? I had this issue at the begining of October.

I'm just wondering if you might have gotten my phone. Both the iPhone telephone support and the genius bar guy told me that they had never seen the "unable to shut down" problem before. I'm interested in what they tell you.
