alarm does not work with speaker dock

I have an Altec Lansing iM600 speaker dock. I set an alarm on my iPod. That alarm works fine when connected to headphones. When connected to the dock the alarm doesn't activate, instead it waits until headphones are hooked up and then triggers. The dock works fine for normal music playback but not for the alarm.

Did Apple break the alarm with 3rd party products the same way they did with video?

Oh I've left plenty of feedback about the Classic to apple. Feedback doesn't get answered though. That's why I'm posting here to see if anyone had experienced or heard of this bug.

It seems as if the alarm will only go off if the ipod is connected to something it thinks can output sound - I'm assuming this because when I plugged in headphones the iPod then triggered the now very late alarm. So my assumption is that maybe the iPod software responsible for the alarm doesn't recognize the speakers whereas the normal playback does.

Can anyone with a speaker dock try this please?

I had the same issue with my cheap radio shack Ipod alarm. I figure it would be fixed with a firmware update soon & I'm just using an alarm clock for now. It seems not to work right with the screen saver feature. Try adjusting the backlight to stay on instead of going off after "x" seconds... that essentially turns of the screensaver.

Okay, to clarify without sounding annoying: The screen pops up saying "This is your alarm"...no music no beeps. I haven't tried with headphones yet to see if it even works.

Are there supposed to be a checkmark next to the sound selection when the alarm goes off? Every time I select something, it just goes back to the menu without putting a check mark next to my selection (like tone).

I've tried this with docking my ipod in the speaker dock and using the aux cable and the same output.

There are still a plethora of issues with the alarm after the 1.0.2 firmware.

- backlight must be on so it stays out of sleep mode in the dock
- playlist seems to randomized after a couple repeats of the same alarm
- no confirmation of which playlist has been chosen(just bad interface there)
- 'repeat' setting seems to clears itself after a few days - not sure if this is really the faulth of the repeat clearing or if the alarm just stops working

Hopefull in a few years after all the iPhone/iPod Touch issues get resolved the classic will one day have a working alarm.

Well, IF the alarm works (that's another issue...) then it works really fine with my speaker dock (one of those round jbl thingies).
The alarm has to be on, the time etcetera has to be set, sound or playlist has to be set, and the dock should be on. And then it really does work, no problem at all.

Now I still have to figure out why Apple gives us the opportunity to create more than one alarm (and more than one clock) - with more than one alarm iPod just goes berserk and seemingly cannot figure out any more which alarm to use and remains totally silent... annoying indeed.
