Canon ZR40 not working w/imovie

Hi. I just upgraded to ilife '08 and now my Canon ZR40 camcorder is not being picked up by imovie. Any advice?? Thanks.

imac G5, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

welcome lipman to the  boards .. .

Camera has to be connected via firewire/iLink..
Camera set to play...
Camera connected to power-line (not battery only)
Canons don't allow other devices on same firewire-bus (e.g. as ext. harddrives, fw-hubs, ...)

Thanks! I think it may be the power cord. My power cord has gone missing and I have been borrowing one to charge it as needed. I will give it a shot.

I'm having the same problem with my Canon ZR20. It works fine in my old PowerMac G4 with iMovie HD, but doesn't with iMovie '08 and new iMac. Doesn't work with iMovie HD on the new iMac either.

Hello,

I too have a Canon ZR20 and BOTH iMovie 08 and iMovie HD (06, Intel) are not working with this camera. I purchased it in 11/2001.

I've tried everything and was looking forward to a long weekend of 'catching up' on converting old movies only to learn that Apple apparently doesn't support FireWire mini-DV cameras from Canon.

Help, please!

Same issue here. I've got a ZR40, a very lightly used Apple-brand firewire cable, a year old macbook, leopard and iLife '08. No dice. This camera and cable worked well for me on a G4 tower, running panther, and iMovie 2/3.

I'll be quite surprised and disappointed if newer hardware and software has broken compatibility with a standard firewire DV camera. I'm on hold with apple phone support now; I'll update the message with what they tell me.
