Need assist with loading .mpg to iPhone video...

I had loaded an .mpg video file thru iTunes to my new iPhone/Video in July but the file has dissappeared from my iPhone. Cannot see how I initially loaded this .mpg file thru iTunes. Can you help identify the steps I need to do? My PC is Windows XP/Media Center. I have latest iTunes version updated on PC. THx

Yes, I tried that before and just now, but the file does not show up in my ITunes Movies library with the other movie files I've loaded into iTunes.

Here is what I've done again just now: WENT to FILE>ADD TO LIBRARY, found file on PC, double clicked (ADD TO LIBRARY dialog goes away) looked in iTunes Movices tab and movie is NOT there.

Also, I NOW realize that the other dig cam 30 sec movie clips, while in iTunes Movie Library ARE NOT on my iPhone/iPod video section either even though my iPhone appears to be set to auto synch when plugged into the PC.

Your assistance/suggestions? thx

What file format are the movies in? iTunes will play many different file formats but here is a snippet of what iPhone needs:

Formatting Video for the iPod or Apple TV
Although iTunes can play a variety of .mp4, .m4v, and .mov video formats, Apple TV and the iPod require more specific formats.

The iPod supports up to 640x480, while Apple TV supports up to 1280x720. To optimize for both platforms, we recommend that your source file is at least 640 pixels wide and that you use the built-in iPod converters in Compressor ("H.264 for iPod"), QuickTime Pro ("Movie to iPod") or iTunes ("Convert Selection for iPod"). Each of these maintains the aspect ration of your source file and results in an M4V file containing H.264 video (Low Complexity version of the Baseline profile) and AAC-LC audio. If you want to maximize the screen area of a wide-screen TV, your source file should have an aspect ratio of 16:9 (e.g., 640x360). If you want to maximize the screen area on the iPod, your source file should have an aspect ratio of 4:3 (e.g., 640x480).

Because it uses H.264 Main Profile, QuickTime Pro's "Movie to Apple TV" converter will result in a video that will not sync with the iPod.

Refer to the specifications below if you are not using the built-in converters in Compressor, QuickTime Pro, or iTunes.

iPod can play the following video formats:

H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Low-Complexity version of the Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
H.264 video, up to 768 kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

iPhone spec are about the same except for size:

Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

Thanks. Based on the step you gave me I have been using the right process to ADD.

Will have to digest your input here.

Strange, in July I took a .vob file, renamed it to .mpg (or was it .mp4?) now only shows without extension on my PC, in properties shows as 'movie clip.'

Still in July I took this 'movie clip' file, successfully added it to my iTunes Library and load this to my iPhone Video where it played on my iPhone. WHAT CHANGED? The only thing I can recall is I loaded iTunes Version Updates and somewhere along the way, regularly synching and charging my iPhone thru my PC this .mpg video dissappeared from iPhone and no longer can be ADDED TO iTunes library.

Also now my YAHOO CONTACTS synch gets a "error mingling data" error message so I've turned that off after my initial iPhone CONTACT synch.
