Suddenlink and iPhone email problems

Just purchased an iPhone and having trouble with email.

iTunes sync'd with an Outlook Express identity and account other than my default one, for some reason...even after I removed the identity from Outlook and re-sync'd the iPhone.

Whenever I attempted to add my default account manually, I got the "wrong username or password" error message.

After 3 or 4 hours of experimentation I finally came up with a combination of settings that allowed me to create the account and I went to bed thinking I had it set up. Adding ":25" to my smtp host address seemed to be the trick. I noticed this had been carried over from the other account.

However this morning, I cannot send nor receive email and keep getting an smtp failure notice.

I called Suddenlink Tech support and spoke with two different people. They are cpmpletely clueless as to how to set up an iPhone to sync up with Outlook on their ISP.

Anyone had experience with the iPhone and Suddenlink mail servers? Is it doable?

Thanks,

Brad

I opened up a Gmail account to bypass this garbage and can't even get that to work.

I get a "cannot connect using SSL" notice and when I select try without SSL I get a "pop.gmail.com not responding" notice. This haappens when using WiFi or Edge. I can access my gmail account with my browser and log into it with no trouble.

arrrgh!
