IMAC MAIL INBOX NOT SHOWING E-MAILS.

We have just purchased an IMAC. We have set up the Mail client, which after running the Diagnostics is shown to be connecting to the server. Problem: We cannot see the messages in the INBOX, even though we can see them via the Account Information screen, they are just not showing up in the INBOX.

We can see the SENT messages. All of the following have been done: 1) OS resinstall; 2) Firewall checks; 3) Delete & Recreation of account, and none of these have worked.

We have used the e-mail account settings to set the e-mail account up with Outlook with Windows XP, and the messages download into the INBOX. But cannot get them to show up in the IMAX Mail client program.

We also tried Thunderbird e-mail client, and it does the same thing. Everybody else who uses Outlook is okay and when this account is setup with Outlook it is okay, just with Mail on the IMAC.

Help please . . .

Navigate to the folder:

* ~/Library/Mail/

and look for the folder bearing the name of your account. It should look something like your-account@domain.com. Double-click this folder and look inside. You'll see a number of folders that correspond to your various email boxes.

The problem may be that some of these folders have inadvertently lost the ".mbox" or ".impapbox" extension. Quit Mail.app if it's open, then rename the folder that is missing mail with the extension .mbox if it is a POP account, or .imapmbox if it is an IMAP account.

For instance, if it's a POP accout:

* INBOX

should be renamed

* INBOX.mbox

try out.
