iPhone = Ipod + Phone - PDA

Don't want to stir up things by posting too many threads about this, but the iPhone cannot be called a PDA or a smartphone. A cool multimedia (except media like pdf, doc, ppt, excel etc.) device but nothing more than that.
If you are used to the features from a treo or a palm you will serisouly miss a lot of features.

I'm waiting with anticipation for version 2.0 or 3.0 which (hopefully) will be a device that truly integrates with your digital life....

Where's the to do list?
Where's the direct file transfer?
Where's the truly integrated Calendar?
Where's the iSilo compatibility?

I'm aware of the fact that it has a some PDA features but it lacks a lot of crucial PDA features.

The flip side is, that the iPhone has the potential to be the best PDA phone ever!

That's true Ansuz82,
but it is features that you generally expect from a PDA. Instead of arguing about PDA defintions, I think we can conclude that the iPhone needs some additional features...
Before a horde of dedicated mac users attack me, let me just say that I love mac and have a lot of mac struff but I'm just trying to be objective and map out the flaws of this version 1.0 iPhone.

I have of course sent Apple this feedback and hopefully they wil get a lot of the crucial features into the next versions -I can't wait for this to happen.

I'm not going to argue the point. If its not enough PDA for your needs, don't buy it.

I will agree that there are additional features that would enhance its functionality. Having the above mentioned features, as well as a few others would make it the best PDA on the market. We can only hope.

My only assertion was that a lack of certain features doesn't disqualify it entirely.

Ansuz82,
I don't think you get the point. This is not a matter of whether or not I'm buying the Phone - It's a matter of trying to make this cool phone better.

But that said, of course I won't buy it yet (I was hoping I would, but I can't since I would loose a lot of important features). Hopefully I will soon though, when version 2.0 is in the stores with improved features.

As provided during the iPhone introduction - *it is a phone, an iPod and an internet device* - end of story.

The comparison to other "Smart Phones" was in regards to having a plastic keyboard taking up screen real estate regardless if needed or not and the overall user interface.

It was not promoted as and it certainly has not been marketed in any stretch of the imagination as an enterprise device or as a replacement for existing devices which are specifically targeted at the enterprise market such as the Blackberry and Palm.

Don't want to stir up things by posting too many threads about this, but the iPhone cannot be called a PDA or a smartphone.

B.S. - this is exactly what you are wanting to do and why is beyond me.

One more friggin' time - this is a user to user help forum FOR TECHNICAL SUPPORT ISSUES AND QUESTION ONLY.

If you want to address something to Apple, USE THE FEEDBACK LINK so those who TRULY NEED AND ARE WANTING HELP WITH A TECHNICAL SUPPORT ISSUE OR QUESTION can get it without having to weed through this nonsense. THIS IS NOT AN OPEN DISCUSSIONS FORUM.

There is no excuse for this to be so hard to comprehend and understand unless you are wanting to stir things up which means you are a TROLL.

Here is the feedback link. THIS IS FOR PROVIDING APPLE FEEDBACK.

So,

first of all I would say that my comments are constructive. I'm trying to make this phone better and as I wrote I have already submitted my concerns to Apple.
If you feel that stating the facts could be classified as "stirring things up", then yes I'm stirring, but why can't we discuss the Iphone and its limitations without people like you getting all jazzed up?

Secondly, It seems that a lot of the users in here actually are surprised by the limitations this phone have. If you do a quick search in this forum you'll find a lot of people asking about "how to transfer pdf's and other files?". These people thought that this was possible when they bought the phone.

If I misunderstood Steve Jobs, then I'm sure I was not the only one.

One more time.

This is not an open discussions area provided for "people like you".

Constructive comments and questions in regards to a technical support question. What is considered "constructive" comments about product features can be argued but the bulk of what is provided here from "people like you" in terms of features or lack thereof is far from being provided in a constructive manner. Regardless, this is not what these discussions are designed and provided for.
