are there any blank dvds available to burn larger than 4.7GB?

hello

ive been working on a highly detailed dvd the past month

unfortunatly it exceeds the file size limit of 4.7

when i go to view>project info, it gives me specs of the project

it shows a red bar full, saying 6.2GB of 4.2GB

i was also curious why it said 4.2 when most blank dvds hold up to 4.7GB?

so i am guessing my project is up to 6.2GB?

this is really hurting for me, i would love to keep all of my work on there without taking any off for the limit on burning. are there any blank dvds you can purchase that are over 4.7 GB? and if they do sell those kind is there a setting or something i can do to let idvd know im burning it on a larger disc?

i know that they sell 20GB blue ray, but i am not interested in that...i looked around for a little but pretty much saw all 4.7GB sized dvds

what should i do? do they hopefully sell larger discs? if so where?

please help! im leaving for college tues and i want to try to get this burned by tomorrow!

thankyou for your time

-mike

is a double layered dvd the same as a double "sided" dvd? or does it play on one side?

i see it holds up to 8.5GB which is great and what im looking for

if it play on one side of the disc thatd be great..

is a dual layered dvd-r something that can be played in most dvd players? or all dvd players?

and would i be able to record my i dvd project onto that?

thanks

Check your SuperDrive's ability to burn the dual layer disks. Look under System Profile and see if your drive has that ability. It should say something like -R DL, +R DL

The second layer is 'layered' over the first. You don't have to turn the disk over like an old vinyl 45 record that could be played on its 'flip' side. (Showing my age here 😟 )

ha ohhh thats great its single sided! yea i have about 6 something GB in my project and just wanted to burn everything on one single sided dvd

i dont know where to go to check my superdrives ability. i think my laptop would probabl b able to handle it because i just bougt a mac book pro a few months ago (the one that came with extra ram and stuff)

i still want to make sure though that it can handle it before i purchase the dvds.

so idvd will be able to burn this?

and dual layered dvds can be played on most dvd players?

thanks

+dont know where to go to check my superdrives ability.+

Just go to the Apple logo at the top left menu bar and click on 'About this Mac' and when the little window appears, click on "More info" to open System Profiler. Look under 'Hardware' to find your drive and see if that info about DL is included.

The configuration of your MacBook Pro may or may not have included this dual layer burning drive....probably it does have it, but check first as those disks are more expensive than the single layer ones.

I have:

Mac OS X Version 10.4.10
Processor 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDE2 SDRAM

Disc Burning:

Firmware Revision: KCV9
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Media: No

^^^^ I don't see -R DL but I do see +R DL so that should work out fine right?

My iDVD Project is 115.55 Minutes Long

It says that the DVD capasity is 6.2 GB of 4.2 (So that went overboard)

and only 32 tracks used with plenty to spare

So would you suggest me getting the DL DVD+R discs for my project?

I was thinking of getting the Verbatim brand, I heard they have the best dl dvds, and some other brands have problems. I was checking out this site:

http://www.burnsmart.com/ver95310.html

I will probably go to a best buy or a store similar to that to pick up 50 or 100 (Im making many copies of my dvd project)

What do you think?

Thankyou

Verbatim is highly recommended.

However, Old Toad is correct and I should have addressed that first. The limitation for a DVD project is its TIME LENGTH not its size, because iDVD compresses it.
If your project is under 2 hours, you can burn it to a single layer DVD. Be sure that you have enabled 'Best Quality' in iDVD preferences, not 'Best Performance.' Best quality is for projects over 60minutes, but under 120 minutes. If you do not have this set properly, you will receive error messages that your project is too large.
So, try this first. If it helps, you can just burn to single layer.

If not, go with the double layer option. Verbatim is an excellent choice for brand of disk, highly recommended here.

Well my project is 115 minutes long.

Under project info it says 6.2 GB of 4.2GB (With a full red bar)

Every time i open the project theres a message that pops up saying:

"Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in the Project Info window to Best Quality."

i am looking fora full dvd quality without taking away any quality to the picture or making it run weird.

do you think i can pull of using regular 4.7 GB disc? i mean it says 6.2 of 4.2GB in project info.
what should i do?

thanks

are there any blank dvds available to burn larger than 4.7GB?
