My MacBookPro will not recognize the EDIROL PC-80 keybboard

Just purchased the EDIROL PC-80 keyboard. I installed the driver that came with the system (version 1.0.0) but my Mac (2.16 GHz, Intel Core Duo, OS X10.4.10) will not recognize the MIDI device. I checked the Roland website for an updated driver that works on a Mac with Intel processor. Nothing found for the PC-80 keyboard. Interesting side note is that the keyboad works with Windows XP which is also installed on my Mac. Anyone knows about this problem? Is it a driver issue? Does Edirol (Roland) have a new driver available for the PC-80 that supports Intel processors? Could it be something else I am missing? Thanks for any help?

My guess is that it is your driver. You do need a UB driver. I couldn't find one, either, although I did find this site that sells the PC-80, and advertises it as coming w/ UB drivers. Maybe they can help you if you email them.

There is a driver here, but it is for PPC. There is no mention of Intel. You could try it and see if it will run in Rosetta.

Thanks, Roger, for the link. I have e-mailed them. I am still puzzled why Edirol would sell this keyboard without making the proper driver available. What's a "UB" driver?

Hi, Roger,

There is a driver here, but it is for PPC.

That was the only one I could find, other than the link I gave. However, that's the one he mentioned that he already has.

What's a "UB" driver?

It's what you're looking for. "UB" is Universal Binary, which means it works on Intel and PPC Macs.

Well, I finally got the answer from Edirol support. The PC-80 keyboard is NOT compatible with the Intel MACs. No plans to develop a driver for it. I guess, I will return it to the dealer now. Too bad, I think its a nice product.

Do you know if this all the Edirol controllers ? I have the PCR-M30 and I can't get the driver to install.
Do you have the phone for Edirol tech support? I've heard the Roland is impossible to get hold of.
