Album Art Cut Off

For some of my songs I have odd shaped album art. It's more like a rectangle...similar to the art on a DVD case and not a CD case. I can see all the art fine on iTunes and my old ipod photo, but the new ipod classic cuts off the top and the bottom of the photo. Does anyone know how I can fix that without having to change the dimensions of all my album art? You would think if it worked fine on an older model it would work fine on the bran spanking new 160 GB ipod. :/

I have just discovered this problem as well, though in my case, it is with certain audiobooks whose artwork is actually the cover of the print edition. I imagine it has something to do with the completely new software that was written for the current generation of iPods, possibly related to the funky angling and reflecting of the art, though I really don't know. In any case, I don't think there's a way for us to fix it. I have sent a feedback message to Apple asking that they address this problem, though given how comparatively minor it is, I doubt it will be dealt with quickly, if at all. If you are interested in doing the same, to add whatever small weight you can to the matter, the link is here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html

if I understand your problem right it's actually very simple:
The iPod expect a cover to be x*x pixels in size.
So if you have a cover that is 200*300 it will be cut off. If you change the cover to 200*200 it will show correctly (and you will notice you have to cut something off yourself to get it to 200*200, so that's basically what the iPod does).

Easiest workaround if you dont want to cut stuff of your covers off: Take the 200*300 cover (it's just an example of course, take whatever covers are cut off) and place it centered on a 300*300 picture (change this depending on your covers size of course. If your cover is 500*750 you place it ona 750*750 picture) with white background.
This way your cover will show correctly and completly. You will have a white bar either on the right and left or on the top and bottom of the picture. But except for cover flow you will not notice it since the iPod uses white background.

how do i post a new question of my own? i dont see any buttons or tabs that let me submit a question or a post!

my question is....

i want to import my music NOT based on its mp3 tags but based on which folder it is in.

for example: the top folder is the artist

open that folder and you see all the albums

open an album and you see all my mp3s

i want my IPOD to recognize the artist/album/song title this way

HOW???

first of all: if you are in forum-view you should see that button if you are logged in (check the right side of the forum).

secondly: you don't. the iPod works with tags and - as far as I know - has always been. it creates it's own database file that contains these tags and it's much faster that way than it would be if the iPod was using folder structure.

BUT: there are "tagger"-programs that can create ID3-Tags out of your folder structure. I don't know any, but I know there are. You could check download.com for "id3 tagger" or something like that.

The "black" cover art issue only appears to be with artwork downloaded from iTunes. If you copy the artwork from your library to your desktop and then drag-and-drop it back into your library, it fixes the problem. If you if photoshop, I'd suggest converting the files to jpeg before putting them back into the library because the copied bitmap (.bmp) images are quite large.
