Adobe pdd images

Just bought my iMac and am new to Apple products. I have a lot of files previously downloaded to CD in the Adobe image format (.pdd). iPhoto cant read them. Do I have to buy Adobe Photoshop? Is there an easy way to convert from .pdd to a format that the iMac recognizes? What formats does Photo recognize?

Thanks for any help...

PDD is a PhotoDeluxe format. It is related to PSD (Photoshop Document) but has less features. iPhoto can open PSD files, or at least those that were saved with the compatibility option enabled.

You could try using GraphicConverter to change them to a format that works with iPhoto such as JPEG or PSD or TIFF depending on whether you need compressed or uncompressed images. All Macs used to come with a licensed copy of GraphicConverter. If your's didn't, you can download it from here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11559 and try it out.

GraphicConverter can open about 200 different image formats and batch convert them to about 80 different formats. I didn't check the list to see if PDD is supported but I'm betting it is.
