VPN Default gateway... where to change??

When setting up vpn connection my public IP address have changed to be the VPN IP address which caused the internet to run slower (using the vpn server bandwidth) my question is how can i keep the vpn connection active and have the default gateway as my router not the vpn server. thanks in advance

It would be a usefull knowledge... I have not tried yet, but I think it is like use two different network interfaces (ethernet and airport ) or (eternet and vpn) for different tasks.

the last responce from 'bakednotfried' dials with it. I would guess you should treat VPN as local connection (LAN) and configure ethernet to perform outward connection (WAN or to your own router, not the router within the LAN you connect via VPN). But I might be wrong... did not try myself.
