Canon Selphy CP730 won't print anymore

After installing the latest iPhoto (7.0.2) my Canon Selphy CP730 Compact Photo Printer won't print photo's from iPhoto anymore. The light on the printer blinks for a second, goes red and then back to green, while an icon in the Dock shows the CP730 with a red exclamation mark.

The strange thing is that I can print from all my other applications to this device. And with the previous iPhoto there where no problems either. I already reinstalled the drivers for the CP730, without succes.

Any suggestions?

Try deleting the various printing pref files. One would be located in the User/Library/Preferences/ByHost folder. It would look something like this: com.apple.print.Cache.0016cb3791b6.plist (number will be different). Also com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist and any obvious Canon prefs for the printer. There will be a lot of other Canon prefs but look of any that are obviously linked to the printer. You may not fine any, however.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Hello there Old Toad,

Thank you for your help. However, your suggestions didn't do the trick. What did work, was installing todays iPhoto and iLife update! Perhaps Apple was reading with us? 🙂

I'm bumping this because the same thing happened to my Dad's system as well as mine. I'm using the CP730 and he's using the CP720, and we're using the most recent versions of everything.

Pref purges did nothing.
Creating a new user did nothing.
We can both print from any other app.

Anyone else?

I thought my problem was solved after installing the iLife update, but it wasn't. I must have selected another paper format in my second attempt: 2 out of the 4 presets work, the other 2 end up in an error. However, the setting that I can use for printing, is no longer centering the image on the paper. This results in a thin white line on the side of every print. Extremely annoying.

Any suggestions?

If I set the paper size to 4x6 borderless, things print as expected. I'm not get mis-centered prints, though.

So, I wonder who needs to update: Canon or Apple?
