How do i split an avi file

hi all,

with all the problems for QTP 7.2 i need to be able to split an avi to stop the sound and pic going out of sync when i export to apple tv.

I tried to export to quicktime and then to apple tv but same problem. I think the only soultion is to have 2 20 min files isntead of one big one.

I ain't very good with this stuff to break it down for a 2 year old !!

Open the AVI using QuickTime Pro.
Letter i key will set the "in" point (start of file). Drag the timeline slider to what you think is the middle and your "selection" is now marked.
Copy, open a new Player window and paste. Save As, name the file and return to the original.
With your selection still highlighted hit the Cut command to remove that portion from the file. Save As, name the second half of the file.
Close the original AVI (do not save changes).
Open the two new .mov files, export to the settings you want and wait for that conversion to complete.
Join these two files by opening both. Select "All" in part one and copy.
Switch to part two, place the playhead at the beginning (default) and Paste. Save As to make a final file.
Delete the two "parts" files to free up space.
