Another memory recommendation request

I have a iMac G4 with 512MB DDR PC2100U-25330 built in internal memory. I am looking for recommendations for adding 1G to my system.

Configuration is as follows:

Machine Name: iMac
Machine Model: PowerMac6,1
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
Memory: 512 MB

Hello,

I'd advise you purchase a single 1GB PC2100 DDR SDRAM 200Pin SODIMM and install it in the "User-accessible" slot. This will give you a 1.5GB total. The maximum for the 1GHz 17" iMac is 2GB.

Great answer, mrtotes. My setup is similar, except its a 1.25GHz G4 (3.3) which already has two DIMMS installed:

DIMM0/J22: 256MB DDR SDRAM PC2700U-25330
DIMM1/J20: 256MB DDR SDRAM PC2700U-25330

Would it be a problem to replace the DIMM in the bottom slot with a 1GB PC2700 S0DIMM, for a total of 1.256GB of RAM? I suppose that mismatched sizes will negate the benefit of DDR, and I'd rather not do that, but how difficult is it to replace the DIMM in the other slot (and where is the other slot)?

iMac G4s don't support dual-channel memory. Although they do use Double-Data Rate RAM. The system does not garner any benefit from RAM modules being in pairs.

It's only eight screws to do the "Factory" slot but the awkward cables, replacement of thermal paste and the fact that few users will make true use of 2GB means I would advise against it unless you're planning hard disk or optical drive upgrades too.
