QTTask.exe

Whenever I start up the computer, the QTTask.exe is running and using up 99 percent of my CPU usage so the computer is at a virtual standstill. I've tried uninstalling QT and itunes and reinstalling - doesn't help. I can't end process in Task Manager.
Running QT 7.2

compaq, Windows XP

Run msconfig, and un-check "qttask" in the "startup" section.
Restart the computer.
QTTask should not now be running.
It's not necessary for the normal operation of QuickTime or iTunes as far as I'm aware.
It's main function seems to be to generate the QuickTime taskbar icon, which you almost certainly don't need.
