MTU "Failed on XBox 360, any way to make it work with my Airport?
So, I bought the new Halo and was wanting to play it Live, so I picked up a wireless connecter to my XBox 360. When I got home, the XBox said that the internet didn't have a high enough MTU or something. What can I do to make it work, because I just paid 100 bucks for this wireless connecter, and I want this to work without any money. Please, anybody, if you have fixed this problem, please reply.
The only way I can get my 360 to talk to my airport or airport extreme is if I wire them in, so that's how I've got it set up now - the 360 uses the ethernet port and everything else talks wirelessly. A friend and I spent several adrenaline-drenched hours Tuesday co-op'ing through the campaign on legendary.
Very odd. I have the AEBSn Gigabit and had no problems with my 360 using the wireless adapter. Passes all network connectivity tests, and I didn't even open any ports for the thing. Finished Halo 3 on normal with my gf day after it came out. Now we gotta do it on legendary 🙂
I was having trouble getting my XBox360 to recognize my Airport Extreme (n) router wirelessly, and searched for help on this forum. Couldn't find an answer that would work for me.
Then I changed the encryption method from WEP to WPA on the base station. The 360 immediately recognized the Airport Extreme (n) base station. I input the base station password for the WPA encryption in the 360, and all is working perfectly.
If you are having trouble connecting the two wirelessly, use WPA encryption.
There is a utility from Japan for mac that can change MTU on wireless and I have it on my all macs since I had issues with VPN and MTU issue on wireless.
I am in the office now and when I go home will check on my mac re. the utility name.
That changes the MTU used by the Mac. It does not change the MTU of the packets from other clients of the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).
The AEBS has no MTU setting because it does not adjust the MTU as the packets pass through it. Therefore each client is responsible for setting their own MTU value.
If the Xbox MTU needs adjusted and it is connected (wirelessly orEthernet) to an AEBS, the MTU must be adjusted on the Xbox... not on the AEBS and not on the Mac.
