Firmware update returns and error

After the firmware updater launches and I enter my password I get the following message:

"An unexpected error occurred(0). Your firmware can not be updated."

Any ideas what this problem is?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

It could be a permissions issue.
1. Disk Utility.
2. Select your boot disk partition.
3. Click Repair Permissions.
4. Restart MacBook Pro.

Try running Firmware again.
Post your results.

If you still have issues, open Console and see what error you are getting. Copy and paste that information here for others to see so that they can better assist you with a solution.

Good luck.

Just to clarify things:
1-I've a 2.33 Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro, not the newest 2.4 one
2-Software Update launched automatically and notified me about the update
3-The installer was also automatically launched by SU. When I tried to install I received the message posted by me and other users
There's only two possibilities: either there's a problem with our machines or with the updater.
Unless the installer is incompatible with something already installed.

Copy of my post in another thread:

"Hi!
+I saw the other thread with the errors. I have a Macbook Pro Core2Duo 2.33ghz (17").+
+I was all set to do a backup of my machine before leaving the office but figured I should do the firmware update (software update offered me this). Installed the update, shut down the computer. I was holding down the power on button until the flashing light (the one in the lid) followed by a chime. The screen was black over two minutes, no progressbar or grey screen. I shut down the computer to try again. Now my cd rom makes this repeating sound as one would get after rebooting the machine. Black Screen. I have tried using the 1.3 firmware restore method, it accepts the cd but it does not load. Black screen. Have reset the PMU, PRAM. Nothing...any suggestions what to do?+

+I have three major designprojects due till monday.+
+Any advice in the right direction of solving this would be highly appreciated.+

+Thanks in advance,+
+Tom - Norway+

+Im sorry if my english is'nt all that good. "+

I've just found this on another thread:

As celliot's post notes:

I did some checking. It appears to be a disk format problem. For those who installed a new disk or reformatted the old. Notice that we get the error message when the utility wants to restart.

Go to disk util. Click on the drive name, then go to the partitions tab. If you then click on options you will see something interesting. three options:

- GUID partition table- use the disk to start up an Intel based Macintosh computer

- Apple Partition Map- use the disk to start up a Power PC based Macintosh computer or to use the disk as a non-startup disk with any Mac

- Master boot record- use the disk to start up DOS. . . . . . .

Anyway, it appears that the way the disk was formatted could impact the disk startup and that might be the problem we are having?"

I checked disk utility and found out that may startup disk has the "Apple Partition Map" format instead of the supposedly correct "GUID partition table" one. Strangely enough because I don't remember reformatting the disk so far.
