iMac Aluminium Freezing

I know this is not the first topic about it but I feel so desperate and I hope that with yet another feed back apple might work on this "bug".
I have an iMac 24inch with a 2,8ghz CPU and 4geg of very expensive apple ram.

I called the apple support (france) where we explain me how to flush the PRAM and told me that I should format if I get freezes again.
After an afternoom of basic usage my iMac froze. I re-installed Tiger and after just few minutes after booting on tiger (I did not installed any updates) it froze again...
I even had the feeling that it was close to froze during the installation.

This is a real nightmare, this computer cost me a lot of money and I don't have that much time to lose on how to fix it. If I had the time and liked to do so I would not be an apple fan and would not hate vista.

I made all my relatives switch to intel mac (mother, sister, grand ma) I had nothing to complain about any of those Computers (MB, MBP, iMac White). But when it came to me to go on intel it makes me love my slow G4 CPU.

Where is gone the Apple professionalism ?

I know my post my sound useless and dumb but I'm really disappointed by apple today, I dreamt of this iMac for quite a long time.

Hello,
I have had my 24" iMac 2.4GHz for over a month and had only three black screens (unable to control). The last one happened when the CPU temperature was 26C, so at least it does not seem to be heat-related in that case. Anyhow, what I found is that when the screen turned black, I used the keyboard combination of "Command OptionEject" to put my iMac to sleep, and it worked. After some seconds, I activated my iMac by clicking any key, and the screen problem (seeming freeze) was all gone, and iMac was all good thereafter, without hard booting.

For those of who do not have a really serious (frequent) freeze problem, this remedy may be a handy way to get out of the dreadful situation more elegantly.

Cheers.

I ordered my 20" Alu iMac 2.4GHz the day after they were announced and put up with the freezing issues for 3 months. I installed all of the updates but it was still no good. Upgraded to Leopard, still no good. Yesterday I had enough and took the iMac to an Apple Store and had it exchanged for a new one. Before I did that I cloned the entire HDD with carbon copy cloner.

I've now wiped the hdd in this new iMac and have cloned all of the original data onto this new iMac and so far no freezing at all. What do you think the moral of this story is? The problem is not software, it's hardware (in my case). Good luck to anyone that's having problems. I know what it's like.

"ATY,MemVendorID" = <0600>
"ATY,MemRevisionID" = <0100>

My iMac froze 3 times 3 weeks after I got it at the end of August (twice in Frontrow, once while encoding in iDVD, never froze again since. I applied update 1.3.

FWIW I have never experienced the lockups/artifacts described in this thread on my iMac (in sig below) with 1.3 update applied.

However, my MemVendorID and MemRevisionID are different:

"ATY,MemVendorID" = <0100>
"ATY,MemRevisionID" = <0900>

I read either on this forum or on another that one way to stop the problems with new iMacs crashing is to turn off the options putting it asleep. They can be found in the Energy Saving preferences. All I can say, is that having had at least one crash a day, I now have not had any since that change. I do not now why this works, but it does.

I just got my new iMac today, and from the very beginning I was facing the freezing issue. I applied the 1.3 update, but the problem remains. I'm VERY upset, getting a new Apple computer for so much money which freezes at least 10 times on the first 5 hours of usage is not funny at all. Since the problem is known for a while, and there have been software updates in the meantime, I wonder if Apple is able to solve the problem at all. I'm seriously thinking about sending the iMac back tomorrow, and that being said from a long time Apple user and fan: Yes Apple, it's serious, and NO, it's not a few users only having this problem!

well after DAYS of my new iMac being in the shop, it turns out that the video card was "bad" and is going to be replaced. I guess that is good news, but I am still not that happy considering that my Mac has now been in the shop for about as long as I had it at home.

I guess this confirms the issue of some of the video cards being bad.

What can anyone here do about you not being happy? I wish I could help but if you are unhappy just don't spend any more money with Apple. That is what reasonable consumers do when companies treat them in a way they don't like. As a consumer it is your choice and is really a right. That is why there are certain stores I refuse to shop and and certain products that I refuse to buy. At least they are addresssing the problem and fixing it for you. What is it that you want them to do?

This is a peer to peer help forum for technical issues. No one here can help you with being unhappy, though I feel certain that you could find some forums on the web that could address your apparent unhappiness.

Call Apple and complain to them and demand something from them that would make you happy is all I can suggest you do.
