DHCP from 10.4 server not working with Windows client

I have a netgear wgr614 router for my dsl, but I have dhcp turned off because I'm using my 10.4 server to do that. The IP of my router is 10.9.0.1, and my server is 10.9.0.9. It works fine on all my Macs, but no PCs can get the dhcp. If I configure them manually they work. What can I do to fix this? Is it something about the way xp looks up dhcp servers? Let me know if you need more info.

If you have (a private IP) DNS setup in your server use the same domainname in DHCP - especially if you want "autocompletion" to work.

That is if you have the FQDN: server.mydomain.com you only need to enter server and the rest is "filled in" automatically when connecting to the server from a client.

So in this case "mydomain.com" would be what you should enter in DHCP config (search-) domain field.

On mac you can test what you get from DHCP using : ipconfig getpacket en0 (or whatever interface you are using), in Windows ipconfig /all in a "DOS" window.

okay, well, what I did first was put in sbcglobal.net for the default domain, then turned on my pc, and sure enough, it worked. however, I've been fiddling with building up an intranet in my apartment, with the domain 2707ostapt9.com. So then I changed it to that, and now it still works, plus all my computers load the default os x server website when I type that address in safari or on my pc ie. Sweet! Thanks guys.
