Verizon.net email

Hi!
I am new to the forum and to iPhone. I have a verizon.net email account but could not get the iPhone to recognize the account (I have Outlook 2002 and thought that may be the problem). Then I thought I could get around that by forwarding that email to a Yahoo account and setting up the Yahoo account on the phone. I was able to add the Yahoo account but the mail would not forward from verizon.net to Yahoo.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
