HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool

I'm using HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool to format my iPod. I lefted it over night, yet it's still going. How long should it be? My iPod is a 60G Video.

60GB should not take long to format on a herd drive. The iPod may not be usable when done if it finishes. Formatting of iPod is done using iTunes with the restore function.

Essentially, after I format it I am going to use the updater, downloadable from the Apple site, to reinstall the iPod. The version would be 1.2, not 1.2.1, which is known to be the problem.

After formating the iPod. I tried using iTunes to restore the thing, but it gave me the 1418. Then I tried using the iPod Updater 1.3, and all I get is a "iPod Service error." message. Any clues? Thanks in advance.
