how do I turn off the metronome?

I am still mastering GarageBand. I have version 3.something. HOW do I turn off that stupid metronome? I have tried the built-in help, and the menu where you can check or uncheck metronome. HELP!! Wanting OH so much to record my own original music compositions!! Thanks
