No slider on right hand side of events or photos

The slider that allows you to scroll through photos or events is not visible. It appears to be there as I can make the photos and events. Just cannot see the slider.

rdaniel:

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As a first try, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.

User uploaded file Do you Twango?

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Have you tried a reboot since this manifested? So many users have recently reported their problem seemed to go away the next time they restarted.

Are you able to scroll up and down with the roller ball on your Super mouse? I know that's not a fix but a workaround.

Boot into Safe Mode and see if the scroll bar is visible and working. If not, then an install of iPhoto seems warranted. If it does, then there's something in your account that's the culprit.

I have rebooted but not in safe mode until just now. Still did not solve the problem. Must admit I've never done safe boot and don't know what it does, but am going to read about it.

Am embarrassed to admit I'd never used the roller ball before but I can scroll through events and photos with the roller ball.

Are you saying I should reinstall iPhoto? Is a custom install of just iPhoto (vs all the iLife programs) the correct way to do so? (By the way, I do have another account for use by family, and it has the same result in iPhoto.)

Thanks very much for your assistance.

Since the other account is experiencing the same effect you should reinstall iPhoto. If you bought the iLife 08 package then run the iLife installer again but look for the Customize button. That will let you install only iPhoto. Once you've got it reinstalled be sure to update the the latest version and then repair disk permissions with Disk Utility.

Just got a chance to try your most recent suggestion and still cannot resolve the issue. The installer would not allow a custom install so I reinstalled the iLife package. Software update says everything is current, and I repaired permissions. No change to the iPhoto problem, and now iDVD will not launch. It's icon bounces once and goes no further. Deleted prefs on both and rebooted. Still no change.

Unless you deleted any file with iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie in the file name from the HD/Library/Receipts folder, before the update, Software Update will think you're up to date when you're really not.

I suggest you manually download the latest updates for each iApp and run them. You can find them all here: Apple Downloads. I find it much more reliable to do the updates manually than rely on Software Update.
