I just bought a new xplio monitor which I would like to use it while I'm editing, I'm using final cut pro 4.5hd on a ibookg4 how do I set it all up so I can use it full screen while I'm editing. Thanks for all the help.
Are you asking how to connect the monitor to the computer, how to get your mac to recognize there is a monitor attached, how to get the computer to do an expanded desktop (not mirroring) or how to get the new monitor to display 'desktop cinema preview' in FCP?
I dont know what I did but I have it hooked up but if on my ibook I move the window over to the right it start to move onto the new monitor, what gives?
Open up system preferences>Displays>Arraingement. this will show you how the monitors are virtually configured in one larger desktop. If you wish to arrange them differently, simply drag one of the them to the desired position.
If FCP, drag whatever element you want to the new monitor screen and enlarge it to fit or use Desktop Cinema preview on the new monitor. Have a read in the manual about it.
I just cant figure out the Desktop Cinema preview on the new monitor... it will work if I just drag the window over to the right but it wont display as a total full screen.
you need to select view > video playback > desktop preview - fullscreen
you also need to select view > external video > all frames
you'll notice the keyboard shortcut for this is command F12 which you can use to turn the desktop video on and off if you use that monitor as a workspace as well.
its a bit confusing since the menu is written so that you have to think of your desktop as an "external video device" ... like any other device you would use to view video.
Keep the Canvas or Viewer on the second monitor or get a converter box (for example there are some that go from FW to DV and what not) which will take a firewire cable from the Mac to the Box and convert it to a signal for a monitor. It's different than Desktop Preview and you need to alter it's settings from the View menu in the menubar.
Select Firewire out from the menu then hit Option + F12 (once you have all this set up) to refresh your AV devices then I think Command F12 for Show All Frames. This is from memory but I'm close.
If you're just previewing or using DV you can get a cheapie converter like the kind (I think, memory here) Canopus makes. I think it's them. I could be wrong.
Dude you are the bomb, it worked!!! thanks man, now if I can only figure out how to make a still frame in fcp and then change the background for a couple of seconds then go back to the normal video, but thanks man, way too nice of ya.
