Rather than attempting to pinpoint, what exactly is causing the problem, it may be easiest to uninstall
AOL, and then reinstall it.
Follow my instructions, in this document
How To Manually Uninstall/Reinstall AOL..
But download and use, a fresh copy of the software, as maybe your original is corrupt.
Your
Network settings, in
System Preferences, will need to be adjusted, according to your connection method.
The procedure is really not as daunting as it appears!
