crystal film supports for protecting screen

I don't see any kind of screen protector on the accessories page. Do they make crystal support films for the iphone, like for the ipod? Or are they not necessary with the iphone? I'm leaving on the plastic covering that came on the iphone now to protect it, but i wonder if that's interfering with voice quality and sound level.
