According to numerous posts in these forums, Apple has announced:

1. October 26th release date.
2. Minimum 867 Mhz G4 and 9 GB of free hard disk space and 512 MB of RAM and DVD drive. http://www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs/
3. Any new machine purchased on or after October 1st qualifies for Up to date program: http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/

Does anyone have any idea when the next OS after Leopard will be?
Only joking!

However, I do have a serious question:

My ageing ibook has a proc. speed of 933. You have quoted the min speed for a Leopard upgrade) as being a little under that. Yet I think I saw somewhere the recommendations for the Tiger upgrade as over 1MHZ.

I find my 933 slow (actually painfully so) so really what might the responses be like with Leopard?

Surely I should get a new computer?

An expert opinion would be very welcome.

Thanks

Gordon

If you currently have speed issues with your machine, you should read through my FAQ*:

http://www.macmaps.com/Macosxspeed.html

An unhealthy system does not bode well for the ability to upgrade your machine. Upgrades generally add features, and don't fix issues that build up because of data corruption, a machine that is overfull, lacks resources, or has third party utilities which haven't been properly tested with the system which can all slow down your machine.

Yes thank you. though I didn't quite follow everything in your FAQ link, I appreciate it's values.

I do an ONYX clean up every week or so. I jettison unwanted applications using 'what size' from time to time.

I have now downloaded PT (and found nothing to worry about) and ran Janitor today.

Is it still necessary to run Janitor when I use ONYX?

What have I missed?
