Batch Import Images

It is extremely easy to batch import images into Keynote. Set the View in the presentation to Navigator (using the View menu), which will show you the slide thumbnails in the left sidebar. Now select your image files in the Finder, and simply drag them into the thumbnail sidebar. A new slide will be created for each image. You can ensure that large images will be scaled to fit on your slides by going to the Keynote Preferences, in General, and check the option "Reduced placed images to fit on slides".

I've been trying to do the same thing. I need to quickly make a slide show for a photo class of student images. I pick a theme and blank Master slide. I have the prefs set to resize to fit slide, but when I import by dragging the images onto the left panel, I get the slides made, but they are not resized. The horizontal images hang over the right edge, and the verticle images show only the center of the verticle as it hangs over the top and bottom of the slide.

Not sure what the issue is?

It used to be so easy to put a carosel tray on the light table and have everyone put their slides into it!

I'm trying to do this and followed the instructions above, but the problem is that while horizontally-oriented photos are imported and reduced to the size of the slide {1024}, vertically-oriented photos are not, and overflow the slide frame substantially since these are 2272x1704 images.

Could someone help identify the source of the problem and\or suggest a solution?

I have yet to find a simpler way though, short of submitting feedback to Apple suggesting that they consider adding this feature to Keynote or changing the way "Reduce placed images to fit on slides" currently works to match it.
