Really need help with Album Art Work!

Hi All,

I am having a problem with album artwork and size. Amazon.com has obviously changed the size of their album covers, because they aren't a square. They don't look right in iTunes, on my iPod, or my iPhone. I tried exporting the photo (from iPhoto) selecting 300X300 or 600X600 (taking the cover from another site that had them square) and it doesn't work. It's really frustrating. I am bummed iTunes won't let you copy the album artwork. Any help is appreciated.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You can use Preview to crop album art to the right size. Take a screen capture when you have the artwork on-screen and crop it in Preview.

How? I don't have any options in Preview other than zoom in-out or rotate?

In Preview, you should be able to click and drag over the image. Then just copy and paste it.

I'm sorry. I don't understand. Are you talking preview from the upper drop down window? I just want to make my album are square rather than rectangle. Apple is stupid for not allowing that to be done in iPhoto.

Ok, I was able to crop it but that still didn't solve the problem. the artwork I get from Amazon.com is not a square shape, more of a rectangle. As a result, there are two white bands across my art work - i.e. it doesn't fill up the whole artwork box.

The covers you get from Amazon or anywhere else are just JPEGs — you can crop them however you like, using Preview or iPhoto. If you want a perfectly square cover, constrain the cropping tool to a square in iPhoto and crop the picture to be square. You'll obviously be chopping off part of the cover, but if you're really bothered by the white bands in the artwork pane that's all you can do. (A different image editing program would let you stretch the image into a square shape, but that would just distort the cover.) It's not the fault of Amazon or iTunes — some album covers just aren't exactly square, particularly if the CDs are sold in cardboard flip-cases.

Preview is a Mac program that views images. It came standard on my Mac. You could follow Jeremy's suggestion for iPhoto or crop the image in Preview to a square shape.

I deal with artwork in a more hap-hazzard way, but most of the time, i get SQUARE results...
Just Google the album title, then click the IMAGES tab. More times than not, I find the album cover in multiple sizes and about every time, at least one version that is truly square.

All i need to do then is click the image, then again at the top of the resulting Google page (to show just the image - out of it's surrounding page), then drag the image directly to the Album Artwork Placeholder in the GET INFO tab (that has already been opened on multiple items - the whole album).
