spinning wheel of death when recording to external hard drive
I recently upgraded from Logic Gold 6 to Logic Pro 8. In Logic 6 I recorded everything to a 250GB external hard drive with no problems at all. Anytime I try recording to the same drive when using Pro 8 I get the "spinning wheel of death" for about 1 minute and then it begins to record. If I record straight to my internal hard drive there are no problems. Any suggestions?
not sure if this is it but, check your energy saver in your system preferences, there is a check box to put your drive to sleep whenever possible. Make sure it is unchecked
I'm just guessing at this point.... is the song project saved on the external drive? or is the song file on your main drive and then audio files on external? Put everything on same drive. Also is your external drive just about full? how fast is the drive (RPM)? run a defrag program on it. sorry I wish I was more help
I have over 200GB of space left on the external drive. My project is saved to that drive as well. ??? Not really sure what is going. I appreciate your input. If you have any other thoughts, please pass them on.
I am having the same problem. Just bought an imogea external and getting same issue when trying to record to the external drive. I hope Apple addresses this issue soon.
I think your problem is different to the OP's - in your case, did you check the format of the drive before you began using it? It's possible that it's formatted as NTFS or FAT32 out of the box, and you need to reformat to Macintosh Extended.
But this wouldn't apply to the OP's as he already had been using his drive for a while with no problems, although maybe permissions and/or ownership got scrambled.
I had this EXACT problem. You need to format your harddrive using disk utility (don't forget to copy your files to another drive first, or you will lose the information when you format)....everything now works like a charm!
