iTunes Not showing songs in playlist

when i connect my iPod to itunes. it shows my playlists yet I can't see the songs in the playlists.

why is this?

how can i fix this so I can see the songs in my play list...

So, your iPod appears in iTunes with the playlists listed underneath but when you click on them they don't show, is that correct?
