iTunes video-for-ipod conversion VERY slow - third party much quicker. Why?

Does anyone know why converting video in iTunes is so slow, but a third party program (like videora) is so much faster? I'm curious, because I've compared files converted on both programs, and there's DEFINTITELY better audio fidelity with iTunes, but I can't imagine converting the audio is what's causing it to take so long. I've so far only converted quicktime .mov files, but on average it takes about 1 hour for every 3 minutes of video in itunes. In videora, at the highest quality, it takes about 7 minutes for every 3 minutes. That's a huge disparity!

Anyone educated enough on this to explain? Is it just that my computer is wonky and responds better to the third party software than it does to iTunes? I've got lots of videos left to convert and I'd love the best quality, but 1 hour for every 3 minutes is more time than I can afford.

Just like many other programs iTunes is general purpose and doesn't do some things very well. Videora is designed for more specific tasks so it should be better at those tasks.

To me this is getting to be a problem with iTunes Apple is using one program to do to many things. Not all of them well. Burning and ripping CDs has always been slower with iTunes than other programs.
