WHERE HAVE ALL THE L7 LEGACY DRUM KITS GONE ?

Opened a song in L8 created with Logic PRO 7, had 2 instances of an EXS24 kit that I made based on Logic 7 factory kit "Dance Kit"... 18 samples wouldn't load killing the kit. Went to the "Legacy ESX24 samples" folder created by L8 Install in search of the various legacy kits that should be in there. WHAT ! ONLY the GM drum kit !!!..... NOW WHAT ? Anybody else discover this and what's the solution ?

There's a hundred threads about this - have a nose around the forum, it's all been discussed to death, with various solutions...

In short, yes, there are some compatibility issues with the installer and some versions of iLife, causing some samples to not be installed properly, the legacy settings should all still be there, although the factory content is moved to a "legacy" subfolder, but the issue is missing samples, and the installer does that if you have iLife 06.

You can reinstall the content or better still use something like Pacifist to extract the missing content from the installer packages.

hi,
i keep on posting - should be a sticky - all samples are present.
a lot don't have .aif on the end.
use lp7's project manager to resolve the file path after using Pacifist to extract.
(PM is in lp7 only - you might have to rip out the PM Data and refresh the whole data base.)
if there is no other way you might have to manually insert the missing clips in the EXS patches manually and resave.)

I do not have i life 6, my OS X came with i life 5. So far I've found that Dance Kit.exs and Techno Kit.esx are missing samples. Do I find them on the Logic Pro7 disks, or the Logic 8 Disks. If I buy Pacifist, which Logic do I choose to extract them from at this point ? Why doesn't somebody put up an ftp site where all the logic missing files are for easy choose and download ?

There are many threads on this subject. I and many others are experiencing missing samples that were part of the EXS library from Logic 7. After the L8 studio upgrade install, samples that should have been left alone or re installed, or moved, into a legacy folder are just not there. You load a L7 song up into L8 and let's say you used Techno Kit.exs, you may find several samples missing from the kit and trying to find them proves there gone. I've posted at sonikmatter as well since there is a congregation of others with the same problems. I ran the installer again, and checked only "Legacy Logic 7 Sounds" .Nope, samples still missing. Apple step up on this one and come up with a published fix already please.

Seems to be a fix. First, *GET PACIFIST* , then look at Logic Studio install .pkg, when you have a defective .exs drum kit do a find search for the sample that triggers the missing error. Then you'll know where all the samples are located in the install for that kit as I have found that it's more than just one sample missing in a legacy kit, it's all the .aiff's in my case. Now just extract the whole folder of samples for that kit and put them here: Library/Application Support/Logic/EXS Factory Samples/10 Legacy Instruments/08 Drum Kits/. After extracting ALL the samples from L8 Install I have now corrected Dance Kit, Pop Kit,Techno Kit.

Ok, This helps me understand things a lot better... (I had a fresh post about this today. Apple Please fix this!)

I am specifically missing an .aiff file in the jazz kit.exs instrument. I downloaded pacificist. When I find the missing .aif files where do I copy them? I see a listing for jazz kit.exs on my machine but there is no folder with the associated samples.
I see folders for some of the other kits but none of the kits that are in Library/Application support/logic/sampler instruments/drums and percussion/acoustic drums.
Jazz Kit was a GB instrument right? It's not in my GB Library/App support/GB/Sampler/Sampler Files directory. Should it be?

Maybe I'm really missing something here but if I found that .aif file what folder would I copy it to? I don't see any of the other .aif files for the jazz kit.

btw-Thanks for all of the good advice on the forums. I am learning a lot.

Rexy,
I installed into the GB folder and it "voila!" when I opened up the project with Logic it found the file. I only have two exs drum kits in my 01 acoustic Drum kits folder. They are Dry Standard Kit and Stereo Drum Kit. Should there be more? Does it matter that I put the jazz kit in the GB library? It did seem that Logic found it.

Yes I have three kits in there as well, add Jazz Kit to yours. You may want to try this advice from another thread...installl both the initial GB content (do a custom instal of ONLY the GB content from your system install disks) and re install the Legacy Logic content ( L8 custom install and check only the Legacy content). I did the L8 install first then the GB. This should in theory make sure that you have all the new that L8 has to offer, plus all your GB sounds and Legacy sounds as deemed by L8. From what I can tell this includes EXS samples and Instruments, and other GB instrument plugins like Hybrid morph that uses EXS samples. If you'd read through related posts you'll see many people are having to do some form of recovery after the L8 install/upgrade. It seems that some migrators from L7 are having similar problems as those who went just from GB. It's all about what's missing and how to get it back.

If I am not mistaken, I have a total of 15 kits in my Acoustic Drum folder,Cavern,Dry Standard,Headbanger,Indie Live, Indie, Jazz,Roadhouse,Rock,Seventies,Stereo ,Studio Brush,Studio Heavy,Studio Tight,Studio Toolkit, and Warehouse. All seem to work in my EXS sampler and loads super fast ! I finally figured out how to use the Pacifist app....works great... hope that helps... cd

Interesting cd, I only have 3 kits in my Logic application support Acoustic drum folder. THe rest and there's many are located in a folder of mixed .exe instruments located in application support/Garageband/instrument library/Sampler/Sampler Instruments. Logic 8 is dipping heavily into the Garageband library so it seems, and with all the Jam packs that came with L8 both Garageband and L8's sound pallet grew considerably.
