Restoring deleted files from an emptied trash - how to?

Hi,
I've had some files mysteriously disappear on me recently. Either I accidentally trashed them & then emptied the trash (unlikely) or someone else did it to screw with me (I'd rather not explain why that might happen).
Is there anyway I can restore files that have been trashed & then deleted from the trash? The trash has been emptied, but is there still anyway to retrieve them?
Or can I at least find some log that might tell me the time & date of deleted files?
Thanks!

MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hi EyeHeartDesign, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.

Ouch. Stop using the computer as that overwrites the files.

Apple store or AASP available?

Another computer on hand? Do a search on 'emptied trash.'

There are applications that will restore files if they were not 'secure deleted.' If your nemesis is computer savvy that is probably what they did and you would be out of luck.

Okay, nevermind; I actually had the photos on the memory card still. I'll just have to re-edit them.
I feel much better. I still would like to know where they mysteriously disapperad to off my computer though....

And thanks for the suggestion; I was about to download some program on another computer to restore them when I though to check to see if I had the memory card. The photographer had left it; yea!
