Connected to Wireless AP, but no Network Connection

greetings. i have a g4 ibook i adopted from a friend. it appears i am connected to my wireless access point, but i can't browse the web using safari. i get a "not connected to network" error message.

mybook can see my, and other, access points and it shows a strong signal. the westell wireless has WEP enabled on it by default and i've supplied the correct password. i know this because i typo-ed it once and received an error message.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

pduffy, Welcome to the discussion area!

Is your access point using MAC address filtering (access control list)? If so, the best solution is to disable that feature. If you can't or won't disable it, you will need to add the wireless MAC address of the iBook to the list of allowed clients.

This is likely to be dumb question, for which apologies.

I have a linksys wireless router. Few days ago my Xp machine and iBook G4 stopped connecting. Linksys got the router working again, but now the Apple canot connect to the Internet - it sees the wireless netwrok ok, but the internet is not available. "serve not available"error.

There is a WEP key and I think I have that set up ok. I am not really familar with the Mac OSx software so it is difficult for me to interpret some of the posts. The frustrating thing is it all used to work fine.........

I'v had this problem occuring with my linksis router. Turning the router off and on again is about the only solution. I think the error occurs when shutting your laptop off for the night with the wireless still connected.

I cant give much more information on it as i have only just managed to repair my laptop. But a possible solution was turning the wireless off before you turn the computer off. Not 100% sure on that though, but it worked for me
