Print Driver for HP 720C - for my eMac

I am trying to install my old HP 720C printer onto my eMac while I send my Epson back to be serviced. I can't find a Mac print driver for the printer and my attempts to download the linux solution have to this point been unsuccessful. My computer doesn't recognize that there is any new print drivers installed.

eMac, Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I don't have that printer, so you are going to have to do this yourself!
Download the PPD here:
http://openprinting.org/showprinter.cgi?recnum=HP-DeskJet720C
Download foomatic and ghostscript here (and install):
http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/foomatic

When you Add the printer, for model choose other and navigate to the PPD you got.
Should work - but I can't try this myself!

I have downloaded the espgs-7.07.1.ppc.dmg, the footmatic-rip-1.12.2.ppc.dmg, and the pnma2ppa-footmatic-1.12-2.ppc.dmg and installed them on my hard drive.

My trouble is I can't find where they are installed and when I try to add the printer using the system preference - add printer function it doesn't recognise there is a new printer.

Sorry, but I still need help.

It can be a bit confusing at times. Adding a printer that uses third party drivers in Mac OS X 10.2.x and 10.3.x is a bit tricky.

The instructions from the page where you downloaded the drivers states:

*Printer Set Up Instructions*
Jaguar (OS X 10.2.x) and Panther (OS X 10.3.x) users should open Print Center (Jaguar) or Printer Setup Utility (Panther), hold down the Option key, and click the *Add Printer* button in the Print Center toolbar. Within the setup sheet, choose Advanced from the top popup menu; then in the "Device:" popup menu select your printer by name (it should be the last item in the menu list). Finally, select the correct PPD from the model browser and click Add.

Is the name of the printer appearing at the bottom of the list when you select Advanced? After you select the printer, what is filled in for the *Printer Name* and *Device URI*?

You might also want to try using the alternative communications software for USB printers called 'usbtb'. You can download it from http://buymelunch.org/printing/usbtb/ This software will often times work better with parallel to USB adapters than the standard Apple supplied software.

No printer shows up in the device name box.

If the printer is listed by name in the Device pop up menu under Advanced but it does not fill in the Printer Name or Device URI in the approprate boxes when you select it, it sounds like there is a problem with your operating system.

Try using Disk Utility to Repair Permissions; go to your Library -> Preferences folder of your Home directory and delete all items that begin with com.apple.print; restart your computer and try to add the printer again.

If you still have problems, try "updating" your system by installing the combo 10.3.9 updater from the Apple downloads section.
