200 Text messages?????

Actually the plan they have for the iphone data + text messages is rather good compared to all the other data plans for any other type of device they sell. Most start at 39.99 just for the unlimited data part alone.

But no, no way around it even being an existing customer. The iphone data packages are all inclusive as far as how they bundle everything. It would be cheaper to just bump up to the next highest.

Also, I was told that the messages are stacked - meaning if you bump up to the 1500 message package it's really the 200 + 1500, so you get 1700. But I am going to get a definite on that.

That is just a standard texting plan AT&T has that anyone can add to their account. The iphone plan you have will superceed that in the billing system, so having both will not do anything.

And that 4.99 plan only incuded 200 texts no matter who you send them to. The unlimited part is if you add $5 to that, making it 9.99 and then you would still get the 200 to anyone, and unlimited mobile to mobile (other AT&T) texts.

That's because the iPhone only has EDGE.

The other devices download up to ten times faster, and allow the use of data and voice at the same time.

Being able to surf and talk at the same time, without missing incoming calls, is priceless.

No, actually all but about 2 at the MOST that they have still run on the edge network. And I'm talking about all the PDAs and Blackberrys moreso then the simple phones that are 3g. Trust me, I would know.

It's not going to work. Even if a rep who has no clue and ends up adding it on your account, it will just get removed if a sweep is done to iphone accounts anyways. It's a conflicting feature, it won't happen.

For the iPhone, these are your options for data and SMS and the ONLY options for the iPhone.

$20/mo - unlimited data plus 200 SMS.

An additional $10/mo provides for 1,500 SMS.

An additional $10/mo for unlimited SMS.

If you want unlimited SMS with the iPhone, it will cost you $40/mo which includes unlimited data. This is in addition to your calling plan.

Check here under the Existing Customers tab which applies to new subscribers also in regards to the required unlimited data plan for the iPhone and available options for SMS which are 2 additional options only - 1500 SMS instead of 200 SMS for another $10/mo for a total of $30 or unlimited SMS for an additional $20/mo for a total of $40.

but those arent the ONLY options. You have 2 more in between there. You can add the unlimited mobile to mobile texting for $5 more to the 200 message and 1500 message packages. So it would make them $20 for 200, $25 for 200 + um2m, $30 for 1500, $35 for 1500 + um2m, and $40 for unlimited.

May want to double check that and make sure it is inclusive of the iPhone. 😉

I feel that these are for AT&T standard accounts, which don't have the iPhone package.

The only different about those SMS plans, is that the other one's have unlimited instant messaging, something that the iphone doesnt have.

Yeah I kind of miss the unlimted test messages that I used to get with Sprint for the same price. But the iPhone usage makes up for it I guess.

I don't understand why texting is by nature kept to such a minimal level. It seems it would be less system taxing than phone calls, in which case companies would promote its use to free up telephony resources.
