This may be really idiotic, but everytime I try to open a URL in Quicktime 7.2 (I have Quicktime Pro), either nothing happens or I get a message saying, "The URL is not valid." I've tried looking at this list, going through manuals, google searches, even calling Apple (this was particularly useless), and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Is there someone who knows what to do? Thanks.

You must open the URL to the
file not the Web page that holds it.
http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/G5Pie/G5Pie2.mov Copy (don't click on) the URL above and paste into the Open URL dialog of QuickTime Player.
I have the same problem & am simply clicking on a 'watch video' link that has the following behind it:
javascript:ChangeTab(document.frmTabs,'WATCHVIDEO'). It then comes up with (Quicktime) - Alert - the URL is not valid.
In terms of QT preferences, I have tried to enable all the MIME options (have no idea what these are!), but they seem to revert back. I have everything ticked apart from: AVI (under Video) and PDF under still images.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do? I've tried copying & pasting the link, but it doesn't seem right to me, but I'm a relatively new Mac user!
This is an example of a URL - I click on the 'Watch video' and then select on air replay & get the message from Quicktime 'URL not valid'. It happens on other web sites...
That is a Windows Media Player format (not QuickTime) and in order to play it via QuickTime requires Flip4Mac be installed.
I Flip4Mac reports the URL as "invalid" it is there software (not QuickTime) that needs fixing.
You don't open a URL in QuickTime with a mouse click. You must always "paste" the complete URL in the Open URL menu option of the QuickTime Player.
If the video link on a web page points to a .mov. You can right click (or click option) on that link and pick either Quicktime player or open in a new web page.
