Itunes "pop-up" on Vista

I just bought a new computer with Vista Home running on it, I get everything set up and installed and it's running fine, however iTunes will randomly insert itself to the forefront of my screen, over anything I'm trying to do with iTunes minimized. It's really aggravating and was hoping to find a solution here.

There is a possibility you have a checkmark in some preference boxes to keep iTunes on top of other windows. To check your settings, in iTunes go to Edit>Preferences>Playback Tab look for the movie playback option, is there a checkmark in "Keep movie window on top of all other windows"? You can try unchecking this to see if things get better.

There's also a mini player option on the Advanced tab to "Keep Mini-Player on top of all other Windows", try unchecking this if it's checked and see if that helps.

This happens to me as well. iTunes 7.4.3.1, Vista Ultimate with automatic updates turned on. iTunes window constantly pops into the foreground, stealing focus from any other running application. This happens whether or not iTunes is minimized. Changing the "keep ... on top of other windows" settings for movie playback or for miniplayer has no effect.

This is EXTREMELY annoying and is a ****-near dealbreaker with my new iPhone. It was tolerable with my 2G Nano - I could just close iTunes and use Winamp to manage my tracks. I do not have such an option with the iPhone, and having iTunes demand my attention every 45 seconds or so is getting pretty effing irritating.

I actually timed it... iTunes pops up, without fail, every 30 seconds. This happens whether it is minimized to the taskbar, or to the system tray. It also happens with and without my iPod Nano 2g or iPhone connected to my computer.

Completely reproducable, completely irritating.

Please, PLEASE tell us what the heck iTunes is doing every 30 seconds so I can disable it.

I am also having this problem on my work PC, and it's rendered me incapable of having iTunes open at all while I'm trying to use the PC. Every 30 seconds, like clockwork, the iTunes window forces its way to the top of the Z-Order and makes itself the active window. It doesn't matter if there is anything happening or not, it does this even when idle.

I did notice that it was like the entire application was refreshing: if there was something being processed (such as download the album art for my collection), it would "start over" (e.g. it would go from 125/1850, refresh and then it's on 1/1725, so no progress gets lost.)

This system is running Vista Business. My home PC, which runs Vista Home Premium, does not experience this problem, nor does my coworker who is running XP SP2 and is running version 7.3.1.3.

I have this problem... however i've noticed it only pops up when im on windows live messenger! its fine with anything else, normal. So i'm guessing theres something on windows live messenger thats probably calling it up all the time, could possibly be the "show what song i'm listening to" on windows live.. i've only just discovered this so i'm gonna muck about with it and see what happens. I had to reinstall vista due to some gay virus issues, but before that i had itunes working fine with everything...no problems, although i did have the same probably initially, so i reckon it probably is msn. try this ?

peace

I figured out a solution to this problem. I am running the latest versions of iTunes on Windows Vista and iTunes keeps poping up and taking focus. I solved this problem by right clicking on the icon for itunes and telling it to "Run as administrator". After runnung it in administrator mode, the pop up problem went away. If you right click on any shortcut to iTunes and then click properties. You can go to the "Compatibility" tab and at the bottom there is an option to always run this application in administrator mode.
