AVCHD Taking Way To Long

hey every1! I have a question about my Panasonic HDC-SD1. which i love btw. but anyways I'm listening to people talk about how blazing fast it is within the realms of loading video content. I'm importin my video on the lowest HD settin. the 920xwhatever. anyways about a 40minute video is taking me an hour and a half to important. is this common for every1? or is there something wrong with my camcorder or something. I'm editing on a Macbook, but I'm sending it straight to my firewire HD.

Macbook Core Duo, 2 Gigahertz- 2 gigs of RAM, Mac OS X (10.4.10), iMac 1.25 gigahertz G4, 768 meg RAM, running 10.4.10

The time your video takes to import into imovie depends on your mac and not on your camera. I'm not really sure how long it should take to import that type of file on your mac, but if you try holding down the alt key and dragging the clip to your desktop, you will see just how long it takes to merely write the file to the hard drive. When you converting from a highly compressed format expect it to take considerably longer.
