I purchased the TV Show "Fallen" and I've tried 5x's to download it. I've clicked "Checked Purchases" as iTunes advised, and still can't download the entire show. The error message says stopped (err=8008)
Try turning off any security (firwall, anti-virus) or web acceleration software you have and try again. Could be a conflict with iTunes and these programs.
Typically this happens when the file is partially downloaded and there is a blip in your connection (leaving you with a corrupted partial download). You'll get a "Stopped (Err = 8008)" and attempts to restart the download in iTunes will not be successful. To recover from this, you'll need to manually erase the corrupted partial file. By default, they will be located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
\Downloads>
Once the files are gone, go back into iTunes, select "Check for Purchases", and the files will start to redownload from the beginning. I've had this happen a few times with larger downloads, and I feel iTunes could really use an additional option to "restart" that is "restart from the beginning" to avoid having to make this manual fix.
This has always resolved my issue. Can you not download anything? If so, I'd probably agree with Timmy that you need to check your firewall settings. However, if you can generally download fine, but you have a few outstanding large downloads that are stalled, then what affect did you see when you erased your corrupted partial downloads? At the very least you should have seen the download status bar change from the stuck percent back to zero. If the percent did not reset, then you may not have erased the right files.
If you are still having problems, please post more details about the issue you are seeing as well as steps you've taken to try and resolve it so far.
I have also received error code 8008, while trying to download an episode of The Big Bang Theory. I've downloaded the first 5 episodes, but can't download the 6th past the first 0.1MB without getting error code 8008. I tried manually deleting it from my computer but it isn't there, and my daughter downloaded it perfectly fine from her house.
When you say that you tried to manually delete it from your machine, did you do it from the iTunes download directory (which by default) is here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
\Downloads> ?
Because just deleting it from iTunes doesn't remove the corrupted partial file from the temporary download directory. This is a 'feature' to allow iTunes to restart large interrupted downloads without having to start from the beginning. However, in some cases, it can't restart and you get this error. You should be fine after removing the corrupted file. Good luck!
Sorry, I don't have Vista. However, I would assume it would be in the equivalent of:
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
\Downloads
When you say you 'don't have a Downloads' directory, are you saying you can find the "My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music" folder in "My Documents", but there is no Downloads directory there? If so, you could trying changing your folder properties to display hidden directories to see if it is hidden for some reason.
Alternatively, if you can't find the directory at all, use the search function to search your entire computer for the 'iTunes' directory and drill down from there into 'iTunes Music\Downloads' and remove the corrupted partial download files that are in that directory. Good luck.
stephenpace, thanks for your comments. I've been trying to figure out how to manually erase it for a week now but the itunes support staff have been less than stellar. Thanks to you I was finally able to erase the temp download (because you can't search for temp downloads in mac). Unfortunately I'm still running into the same problem. I always get an error message at the exact same spot (50.3M) and it always reverts back to 40.1M despite if I reset it back to zero.
I don't have any other problems with any other shows prior or after. The only show affected is episode 6 of Greys Anatomy. Episode 1-5 no problem. Episodes 7-8 no problem.
It's driving me crazy. Any suggestions? I even try to repurchase the single episode but that obviously didn't work either.
Interesting. You are the first Mac person I've run across that has had this problem. Until now, I had assumed it was exclusively a "iTunes on Windows" issue. Just curious--what type of Mac do you have? Is it Intel-based? Also, can you verify a few other questions? We should be able to figure this out.
1) What is the path of the iTunes temporary directory on Mac OSX 10.5?
2) Did you erase the entire Download directory or just the corrupted partial download?
3) If you erased the directory, did it properly recreate itself after you retriggered the download? Can you still download other things? (You could try the "Free Single of the Week".)
4) After you erased the file and went back into iTunes to trigger the download, does the file start redownloading from 0% (e.g. moving slowly as it builds back up?) Or does fairly quickly skip right back to the place where it is stuck?
5) How much free disk space do you have on your Mac? (I'm guessing this isn't the problem since you were able to download a subsequent episode.)
Answers to these questions will help, but if I had to guess now without them, it sounds like you still may not have erased the corrupted partial download yet, and if that is the case, would explain why the download keeps getting hung at the same point.
If you are desperate to resolve the issue sooner rather than later, if you still have one of your five iTunes computer authorizations available, you could authorize a different computer, download the show, sync it to your iPod, and then use the option in iTunes to resync it back from your iPod into your primary computer. (If you need help with that, search for "Moving iTunes Store purchases to another computer" in the iTunes help.) Good luck!
I can download everything just fine, even music with my firewall up. I take my firewall down when downloading tv episodes. I follow the steps that have been listed, and the download starts over again, and once again i get the Err 8008 message. It seems to happen about every other week, last week the episode downloaded with no problem at all, this week im getting the problem again
