Port Mapping Timbuktu Access ?

I have an Airport Extreme running NAT for a dozen computers and I am trying to port map Timbuktu, which uses port 407, to a specific computer so that I can access it from off site. I have added port 407 to the firewall on the computer I am trying to access.

The router has the IP of 10.0.1.1 and the computer I want access to has the IP 10.0.1.2. When I open port mapping in my AE and set the public port and private ports to 407 it creates the route 407->10.0.1.201:407. I cannot get in through the router with this setup. I can gain access to my computer at 10.0.1.2 using TB2 if I'm on the network so I know TB2 is set up correctly.

Why is AE using 10.0.1.201 in the map ?

When I edit the mapping and change it to 407->10.0.1.2:407 I still cannot get through.

I'm stumped here. Any help would be appreciated.

For port mapping AE wants the server computer, in you case the one with the IP 10.0.1.2, to have a fixed IP. Fixed IP addresses in the AE are 10.0.1.xxx, with xxx being greater than 200. That is why you're defaulting to xxx = 201. Try changing the IP of your computer from 10.0.2.1 to 10.0.2.201.

Thanks for the reply!

I didn't realize that I could set a fixed IP on a Mac when NAT is being used. I assume I just change the particular Mac to manual setup for IPv4.

I've manually set the IP on my Mac to 10.0.1.201, port mapped 407->10.0.1.201:407 and updated the AE but it does not work.

I see there are a couple of other threads about port mapping problems. I've never had trouble with it using other routers.

To be honest, I've never gotten VNC on a remote computer to connect to Apple Remote Desktop on a computer connected to to AE. Sorry it doesn't work.

I tried the same setup tonight at my home where I have the latest AE and it all works.

Clearly the AE that I have at work, last generation before 'n', just doesn't do port mapping. It's up to date and does everything else correctly, but won't map a port to save it's self.
