Youtube ignores audio switch setting

Why does playing a video in the youtube application ignore the setting of the audio switch? I get sound out of youtube movies even when the silent switch is set.

iPhone, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Surely the silent switch is just for the phone ringer!

While you're watching, you can easily turn the volume all the way down by using the keys on the side, or tapping the screen once and adjusting the slider. The button on the side isn't made to silence those kinds of things, which is a decision I agree with.

Personally, I's expect the "silent" switch to silent ALL sounds the phone makes. But it's a matter of preference. I can disagree with the implementation all I want, but in the end, it was a conscious decision by the development team I will have to live with.

Yeah since it is called the Ring/Silent switch that could be an indication of its purpose =)
