Sanyo Xacti HD1000 vs. QuickTime (green video)

I recently purchased the Sanyo Xacti HD1000 camcorder which shoots 1080i video in AVCHD format on SDHC cards. Great little camcorder and I assumed it would work with the new iMovie '08 but it doesn't.

I've been told to downgrade to QuickTime 7.1 by Sanyo but iMovie '08 requires QT 7.2 so there's a conflict here.

Is there something I'm missing? I was impressed iTunes and QuickTime come bundled with the camcorder but since I was told by Sanyo that this camera would indeed work with iMovie '08 I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

Anyone??

Yes ... QuickTimeH264.component in Leopards System/Library/QuickTime replaced with the QT 7.1.16 version successfully.
But ............
As I stated earlier Full HD HD1000 movies play under the Leopardas amended above ... BUT .... the sound is not synced to the video (they appear to be running at different speeds) and the video itself appears jerky!

Anybody else tried Full HD Sanyo movies using Leopard and QuickTime amended as in the above thread ... and got it to work correctly??

Cheers,

Hi Everyone-

Yep, nice camera this Xacti HD1000. Perfect deal to have at-the-ready while I follow my 2-year old through this part of life. I called the Sanyo Support folks, as I think someone else has done. Very nice and helpful, but the ultimate answer is that the Quicktime folks need to release a compatibility fix so we can film at the 1080 setting. Good thing I like the camera so much or it would be going right back in the box and back to Amazon.

Unfortunately, I have over 2 hours of video I cannot use in iMovie. I will just have to hang on to it and start to pester the Quicktime people. I have also changes the camera setting to 720p and will work with that until...

I will try to find the best contact at Quicktime and let everyone know what they say... and invite others to call too.

Peace

Yup ... new QuickTime 7.3 released today still gives you 'green screen' using Leopard 10 .5 ....... and replacing the QuickTimeH264.component file from 7.1.6 into 7.3 still gives a 'jerky' video!!
So they obviously didn't address anything relevant with todays update ...... so that doesn't bode well for a near future fix!!!!!!

So I've downloaded the older dmg file with 7.16. I've shown the package contents and need to open the Archive file in the package so I can pull just the "QuickTimeH264.component" from it.

There's two files called "Archive" : there's "Archive.bom" and "Archive.pax.gz". I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the file I need. I've used Stuffit and BOMArchiveHelper, and have extracted a file called "Archive.pax" but that's as far as I can get.

Any help? Please?

I called Sanyo support (see number below) and they said there was no solution for the Mac for 1080i. I am able to open and use the files on my Windows XP machine with Nero, but not my Mac. I have not tried the 7.1.6 workaround. The 1080i also makes VisualHub crash.

I spoke to Sanyo this evening about this issue and they are well aware of it. Turns out they claim that you can only use this camera with 720i resolution on the mac. Period. This will not change until Apple updates quicktime. According to Sanyo the new 1080i functionality of this camera is to advanced for what's out there on practically any computer. Oh well the only thing this does for me is that I won't buy an HD 1000 right now and maybe waiting I'll end up paying less for it or getting model w/ new features. 🙂
