dvd cd firmware discrepancy between Vista and itunes

PLEASE HELP! I've had it and don't know what else to do. I just got a new Acer with Vista. All hardware worked perfectly until I installed itunes afterwhich my computer faild to recognize my dvd hardware. I was told to delete the filters in regedit but then itunes no longer can burn cds. I've been advised to reload itunes but I can't backup my music prior to a reload because with itunes my dvd is not recognized by my computer. I've also bee advised to reload the firmware for itunes but as long as itunes uses my dvd cd my computer wont recognize it. As long as my computer recognizes my dvd cd then itunes doesn't. This is obviously an issue between Vista and itunes. Does anyone know how I can make Vista dn itunes play nice together???????

acer 9410, Windows Vista, 32 bit
