Are there any IPhone antenna signal booster available

Hi,

We have two iphones in our family. The problem is that usually we have VERY poor signal strength in our house. I've gone to ATT's site to check out coverage (they have a map of signal strength by geographical location on their site) and sure enough, we live in a zone with poor signal strength. If we lived a block away, in any direction, from where we live now, we'd have great signal strength available. Sometimes we have good signal strength, but those times are few and far between, and the number of bars showing signal strength often changes right before our eyes.

We love the phones, but they are of little use to us while at home. So ... we wondered if there is a solution out there for us. Are there signal boosters, or something like that, which might help us out?

If there are, where would we look for one? Would we need a special kind?

Pat

ATT isn't all that hot in Colorado either. In the Boulder area Verizon is far better than ATT. However, that said, I couldn't live w/out my iPhone already. It's so far ahead of the other cell phone options, it's worth going 5 years back in cell phone coverage. Even my 3 year old can operate it like a pro.

I'm going to try the cell phone antenna route as well, since my cell is my only phone.

Hi Patrick. Your experience makes me think this will work in my home. I haven't bought the zBoost YX510 yet, but I have taken my cell phone around the house to check for signal strength. The attic turned out to have a fairly weak signal, but there is a place at the front of my garage near the ceiling where I get 4 bars of strength. I will have enough room to run the cable across the garage and down where it will be about 10 feet below the height of the signal antenna. The base would still be in the garage. Is this roughly the configuration you are using that works for you?

What was the secret to getting AT&T to credit your account? I have called several times, talked to managers, and they say that AT&T does not credit for repeaters...I bought the zBoost 510 after reading this post, and it works wonders inside my house, now I'm just looking to find out how/who to speak with to get the credit.

Thanks for you help in the earlier posts, it was getting cold sitting outside my house just to talk on the phone!

Don't even bother. The iPhone has the worse antenna system ever designed for a mobile phone. You will also note that Apple goofed by not adding an external antenna port. (I do not recall another cell phone in history w/o one). You can buy a repeater booster like the zBoost YX-510, and it does work by boosting the signal, but it's a large 120 v. unit (for in home/office) and costs around $400.00. If you think I'm bluffing.... and want to see just how poor the reception is, you can access the iPhone’s field test mode by typing 3001#12345# in the phone’s keypad and press dial. This will bring up the field test menu. If you compare this, side by side, to even the cheapest cell phone, you will be amazed at the difference, especially inside a building or when moving in a vehicle. My company decided not to go with the iPhone for just this reason. Too bad, otherwise it would have been a winner. My guess is, than when other companies come out with similar designs, the antenna port will return. After all, the entire idea behind the iPhone was on the fly Internet access.... or was it just the looks!

I just can't figure out why Apple keeps doing these user-unfriendly things. Adding a remote antenna port would have certainly been easy and boosted the sales as well as the signal. Otherwise... it's a great phone.
